The Community Radio Fund of Canada proudly supports “Workshop development for ongoing skills training, and Summer Radio Camp”

Nanaimo and Ottawa (Monday November 5th, 2018) – Mr. Roger Ouellette, President of the Community Radio Fund of Canada (CRFC) and Jesse Woodward, former President of CHLY-FM, a campus radio station located in Nanaimo, BC, are pleased to announce that $34,320 will go towards the implementation of their project "Workshop development for ongoing skills training, and Summer Radio Camp". These funds were made available by the CRFC under their Radiometres program, a funding program aimed to improve local programming and volunteer participation. It’s the 3rd time that the CRFC provides financial support to CHLY under the Radiometresprogram, bringing the total awarded to over $73,000.

With the funds received, the station will develop a series of media skills training workshops for both novice and experienced volunteers at CHLY, as well as children and adolescents in grades 5 through 12. These future workshops will run throughout the fall and spring semesters for the station’s regular volunteers, and through the summer in a camp program aimed at youths.

"A workshop coordinator to train volunteer skills is key to our mandate to educate and I'm thrilled that we've been funded to run our summer radio camp for kids! CHLY wouldn't be able to run this program without our grant from the CRFC!"—Jesse Woodward, Executive Coordinator.

Since its inception in 2012, the Radiometres program enabled a total investment of more than $12 million in the campus and community radio sector. It is an impressive number of 360 funded projects that have been approved. “I’m happy to add CHLY’s project to the growing list of funded initiatives. Besides increasing volunteer recruitment and retention, this project will likely improve the quality of programming and raise the community’s interest in the station”, says CRFC President, Roger Ouellette.
