Our current approach to AI

The use of artificial intelligence is a disrupting trend that all creative and media industries are contending with today. It is understood that our organization will eventually have to create a formal policy for its use on and off the air. This page outlines our current pre-policy approach to its use within our organization.

Current practices

On-air use

  • We can say that the use of AI is generally avoided for on-air purposes at our station (ie: no AI-generated audio or voice-overs).

Off-air use

  • Staff are currently experimenting with AI for draft outlines for internal and external documents.

  • Some producers are using software supported by AI for creating transcripts of their programs (ie: Otter or Decript).

Our next steps regarding AI

The NCRA, of which CHLY 101.7FM is a member, has posted a statement on artificial intelligence in our sector that can be found here. Our next steps will be informed by this statement, internal volunteer discussion, and ongoing discussion in the coming years with other campus community stations across Canada.
