Tape Syncs & Recording Services on the Salish Sea

Is your interview subject in Nanaimo, a surrounding community or remote on Vancouver Island or a neighbouring island or region accessible by ferry? Our production staff can drive to your interview subject with professional recording equipment to get the quality audio you need!

Tape Syncs

In line with AIR recommendations, CHLY offers Tape Syncs (aka “Phone Syncs” or “Double Enders”) services for a fee of $275 CAD (approximately $200 USD / £161 GBP) for the first hour + mileage, ferry fare, or mutually agreed upon expenses.

Additional recording time is charged at a rate of $50 CAD per half-hour.

Our station has provided this service for organizations like BBC Scotland and Outdoor Magazine.

A recent tape sync was for a BBC’s History’s Secret Heroes in 2023. Crista McDonald was recorded for an interview regarding her late father, Eric Roberts who spied on English fascists for MI5, under the alias Jack King.

Cancellations

Tape syncs take staff off other work they’re focused on. We charge a 100% kill fee if a sync is cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled interview time. The kill fee may be waived if the interview is rescheduled.

Credit

Our station and its staff appreciate credit for their work. Please consider including us in the complete credits in the finished recording, or show notes in the podcast or accompanying web piece.
