Youth will learn the basics of radio broadcasting: how to interview, record and produce audio, write scripts and more! Learn more and enrol your child in the Summer Radio Camp for Youths below.

Sponsored in part by Mambo Pizza.

Camp Information

Important: Space is limited to a maximum of 12 youths per day. Reserve now!

Location

Update July 2023: With maintenance largely complete, the Summer Camp For Youths will remain at our downtown studio this year.

Update June 2023: Pending the completion of maintenance to our recording studio, all, or at least a portion of this year’s camp may take place remotely from the studio at Vancouver Island University in Building 345 (Youth drop offs/pickups via parking lot 5E on 5th Street). If maintenance is complete before the weeks of the camp, the camp will take place solely at our downtown studio.

Bussing: With the potential for the Summer Radio Camp to be located on campus for 2023, remote from the studio, we may be required to bus to locations for interviews, or to the studio.

Because of this, we will provide bus tickets for youths over 12, while youths under 12 are able to tide transit for free in the Regional District of Nanaimo. Thank you RDN!

Food

Participants should come with snacks, lunch, and a bottle to drink water from. On Fridays Pizza will be provided by Mambo Pizza. If your youth has allergies or food sensitivities, please note this in your registration.

Supervision

All participants will be supervised by station staff whether in the studio, remote at VIU, on the bus, or on a walk to or from the park. All station staff have had background checks for vulnerable sectors completed.

Ages

This camp is ideal for youths ages 10 to 14, but we do accept mature 9 year olds, and youthful 15 year olds.
