VICTORIA - Thrifty Foods wishes to inform the public that the following Thrifty Foods stores have been affected by the XL Foods beef recall, due to the expansion of the beef recall to include "whole cuts": Tsawwassen, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Abbotsford, North Vancouver, Duncan, Tuscany Village, Hillside, Admirals Walk, Central Saanich, Quadra/Cloverdale, and Saltspring Island. While not usually supplied with beef by XL Foods, the above-listed Thrifty Foods locations did purchase small amounts of whole beef cuts during the period in question. A small amount of beef product, in various cuts, is therefore affected at each location. In addition, at the Thrifty Foods Coquitlam location, approximately 20 packages of beef bottom round steaks, beef bottom round roasts and beef hip stewing meat were inadvertently mislabeled as Sterling Silver, a product from Cargill. Cargill is not involved in the XL Foods recall. All recalled raw beef products have been removed from our store shelves. There have been no confirmed reports of illness as a result of customers consuming XL Foods beef products purchased in any of our stores. Customers concerned that they may have purchased this product are asked to destroy the product and bring a receipt, product label or empty packaging back to the store where purchased for a full refund. For a full and up-to-date listing of all products and dates affected by the XL Foods beef recall, please visit the Canadian Food Inspection Agency Website or call 1-800-442-2342 / TTY 1-800-465-7735 (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, Monday to Friday). -30-
