Thrifty Foods Nanaimo Barbecue Festival’s Rib Eating Contest Helps Out Local Hospital Foundation
VICTORIA, BC – Thrifty Foods Nanaimo-area Store Managers Dan Zapotichny, Jerry Jaggers and Mikel Knutsson today invited members of the community to sign up for the Thrifty Foods Nanaimo Barbecue Festival’s Rib Eating Contest, a fundraiser for the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, taking place this Saturday at 12 p.m.
“As a brand new event for the Central Island region, Thrifty Foods is proud to be the title sponsor of the festival,” said Jerry Jaggers, Thrifty Foods Brooks Landing Store Manager. “With thousands of visitors from across North America expected in town this weekend, this family-friendly event has something for everyone.”
As part of the two-day festival taking place on Commercial Street in downtown Nanaimo, Thrifty Foods is also sponsoring the Thrifty Foods Rib Eating Contest. The event includes an all-you-can-eat contest for Nanaimo’s local heroes – the firefighters, ambulance drivers and other emergency personnel as well as men and ladies-only competitions. All proceeds from the events’ registration fees will go directly to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. For more information, visit http://nanaimobbqfest.com/rib-eating-contest.
“In addition to donating all of the food for the Rib Eating Contest, our very own Thrifty Foods staff from our three Nanaimo-area stores will be out barbecuing this Saturday and Sunday in support of our local hospital foundation,” said Dan Zapotichny, Thrifty Foods Longwood Station Store Manager. “With a half rack of ribs for $5.00 and ice-cold lemonade for $2.00, rib enthusiasts from far and near will help us raise much-needed funds for the future expansion of the Emergency Department at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.”
