Summer Cleaning and Upgrades Impact Facility Schedules

August 14, 2012- More than half a million people visit Nanaimo’s two public pools and weight rooms each year. With this volume of visitors and the inevitable wear and tear on the facilities in mind, an annual maintenance shutdown is scheduled every August.  This summer for the first time ever, there will actually be a short period of time when both weight rooms will be closed completely (August 26-29).

Mix in a Provincial Swim Meet happening this week and you have a busy and somewhat confusing month as far as scheduling. The public is asked to either call ahead or check the city website http://cnan.ca/rofTHG  for current facility schedules. Options for supervised public swimming include the Kin Pool at Bowen Park or Westwood Lake Park, until the end of August.

In addition to returning to sparkling clean facilities, clients visiting the Beban Weight Room will find seven new pieces of Cybex strength training equipment, kettle bells, and a fleet of upgraded cardio machines which are coming over from NAC. The Nanaimo Aquatic Centre Weight Room will be stocked with all new cardio and strength equipment and will receive a fresh coat of paint.
