Nominations Accepted for Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards

Nanaimo, October 10, 2012 – The Nanaimo Sports Achievement Awards is gearing up for their 8th annual gala event on February 9, 2013.  A new website www.nanaimosportachievementawards.com has just launched and includes additional information on the event, this year’s nomination form, sponsorship information and an Awards archive.

Nominations are now being accepted and are open to any athlete, coach, partner group, team and official operating at the Junior or Senior level in an individual or team sport. Nominees will be judged on their performance and/or sport achievements in 2012 (except for volunteers who will be judged on their long term commitment to a sport or sports).  The nominee must be a resident of the Nanaimo area (Ladysmith to Nanoose) The awards recognize those within the sport community who, during the course of the last year, have made a significant contribution to the community in which he or she lives.

With the deadline of December 12th fast approaching we ask that you submit these names as soon as possible to be considered as nominees for this year’s award ceremony.

Categories include Male Individual Athlete of the Year, Female Individual Athlete of the Year, Male Team Athlete of the Year, Female Team Athlete of the Year, Junior Female Athlete of the Year, Junior Male Athlete of the Year, Team of the Year, Junior Team of the Year, Male/Female Masters Athlete of the Year, Partners of the Year, Coach of the Year (Recreation/Grassroots) Coach of the Year (Development/High Performance), Official of the Year, Sport Administrator of the Year, and Best Sports News Story of the Year.

There is also the Michael Rhode Memorial Award, which will be awarded to an athlete, coach, volunteer or advocate who selflessly gives their time, energy and commitment to sports, as well as to their community.

You can download a copy of the nomination form on the website, and then email or fax the completed form (see contact info on website) You can also pick up a nomination form in person at the PacificSport office, Building 100 at Vancouver Island University, or at the front desk of the Coast Bastion Inn.

The Awards committee is also looking for additional sponsors for this event.  Sponsorship information can be found on the website as well as a listing of current partners and sponsors.
