The Nanaimo Arts Council is presenting ten local students with a total of $4,000 in bursaries and awards to support their education and development. Presentations will be made June 14, 7-9 pm at the Arts Council gallery in Nanaimo North Town Centre in conjunction with the reception for the Click 12 black and white photography competition. Winners of the photography competition will also be recognized at this time and the public is welcome to attend.
Education bursaries for the 2012 Achievement Awards program have been awarded to Taylor Manns for musical theatre; Sara Grover for visual arts; Elise Boulanger for operatic studies; Kayla Richardson for photography; Lindsay Ward and Alexis Harrison for jazz guitar, and graphic design students Geoffrey Campbell, Brooke Newman, Laurelle Armet, and Emily Johnston.
The Bursary and Achievement Award Program has been running for over fifteen year and has given out over $50,000 to students to date. It is designed to assist young and emerging artists and performers in furthering their arts education. Selections are made on the basis of talent, achievements to date, potential, long range goals, financial need and benefit to the community.
The Nanaimo Arts Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to the support, promotion, and development of the Arts in Nanaimo.
