Haven Society is holding its 2nd Annual TAKE BACK THE TRACK: A women’s and allies’ run to take a stand against sexualized violence in our community

Unfortunately it is a sad fact that women are at risk of violence when going out to exercise or run either on their own or in a group. Many women have voiced their concern to Haven that they are afraid to go out for a walk or run in Nanaimo. This fear is enhanced by the sexualized attacks on women at Westwood Lake and other tracks and trails in the Nanaimo area. This year we encourage women and men who want to stand with us on this issue to come and run.

The purpose of the run is to raise awareness around the obstacles women face while running and walking in Nanaimo. We are hoping that the event will put the issue of women’s safety at the forefront of people’s minds, and allow the space for women to express their thoughts and feelings regarding being able to run without fear. Women have the right to feel safe in their surroundings.

All proceeds of the event will go towards Haven Society’s programs and services.
