Delhi 2 Dublin challenges the definition of urban music and drags it to the intersection of Bhangra, Celtic, Dub Reggae, Rock and Electronica. Strong word-of-mouth for their live performances has helped them play several of the top festivals in Canada, the UK, the US, the Pacific Rim and Europe. A new album and international touring opportunities signal that originality and evolution are all part of the Delhi 2 Dublin experience.
“Combine the Indian drums (tabla, dhol) and sitars of the subcontinent with driving Irish fiddles and toe-tapping Celtic progressions, keep the dynamics fluid with bhangra world beat soundscapes and you’ve got Delhi 2 Dublin. The Vancouver-based electronic world fusion quintet’s first studio release surprises most when the diverse sounds ooze together, like on “Stage 5,” where a Brazilian berimbau (stringed bow and gourd) and West African djembe (hand drum) join the sitars and synth, or the sunny highlife/rumba vibe of “African Odyssey.” Core tracks like “Dil Nachlde,” “Celtic Dub” and “Get on the Bus” are just that, bridging Indian chants, that infectiously upbeat fiddle and the various synthesized modulations. The home-grown blend comes off as fresh, addictive and jig-inducing.” Exclaim Magazine
“The Vancouver-based collective combines dhol, fiddle and breakbeats in an Irish/Asian stew that is surprisingly varied, a marvellously wide-ranging and free-thinking concept. “ BBC
