An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter, Glen Foster has been performing professionally for more than 30 years. He is equally as comfortable on stage with just his guitar and harmonica as he is playing electric lead in a rock and roll band.

Glen has released four albums of original music and has toured Canada extensively from coast to coast.

While continuously giving live performances Glen has studied jazz, finger-style, Hawaiian, and classical guitar, having been awarded two silver medals from the Royal Conservatory of Music. A qualified music teacher himself, Glen has also produced recordings for other artists and operates his own ‘Indie’ record company.

Beloved author Diana Phillips has produced another volume of stories documenting life in British Columbia’s backcountry. Her frank accounts of her experiences as a young cattle rancher capture the spirit of a lifestyle that has disappeared. Beyond the Home Ranch is a vivid account of ranch life as Diana reflects on the struggles, joys and satisfaction of living her industrious life.

Fans of her first memoir Beyond the Chilcotin have anticipated the release of Diana’s second book and will have an opportunity to meet the author as she tours Vancouver Island.

Diana Phillips resides in Vanderhoof and still works in the cattle industry. Her first memoir, Beyond the Chilcotin, details her remarkable childhood growing up on the Home Ranch as the daughter of Canadian folk hero Pan Phillips. This event is made possible in part with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.

Montreal-based saxophonist and composer Christine Jensen has been described as, “an original voice on the international jazz scene… [and] one of Canada’s most compelling composers,” by Mark Miller of the Globe and Mail. According to Greg Buium of Downbeat Magazine, “Jensen writes in three dimensions, with a quiet kind of authority that makes the many elements cohere. Wayne Shorter, Maria Schneider and Kenny Wheeler come to mind.” After a performance at the 2006 Montreal International Jazz Festival, Scott Yanow wrote, “She’s rapidly developing into a majo force … as a player and as a writer.”

Jensen is equally at home performing in small and large ensemble settings. Her latest opus, Treelines-The Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra on Justin-Time Records, won her the 2011 Juno Award for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year, along with Quebec’s Opus Award for jazz recording of the year. Downbeat magazine described it as“…a stunning orchestral debut… ****1/2 stars”. She recently performed at various jazz festivals across Canada as well as at Dizzy’s Jazz      Club-Lincoln Center in New York with this ensemble. “Jensen’s formidable orchestra is the glistening sunlight, the tranquility and force of the ocean, and the majestic trees that her music imagines.”-Jazz Times

During tonight’s interview Rhythm’a'ning host Kerilie McDowall will catch up on Christine’s latest projects, her composing and upcoming Nanaimo summer workshops and performances. The 2011 JUNO winning album Treelines features intricate melodies, harmonies and textures with Christine Jensen’s Jazz Orchestra and we will be listening to tracks off the JUNO winning album and exploring the latest from one of Canada’s most recognized musicians.
