Maarten Bayliss, from Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada has played in several bands including, The 80th Action. Lately he’s been making more electronic based music under the name Wolf Thief.
The Line-up for the night and your Summer Solstice Hosts:

Dj MikeyMike (FunkyBreakz Radio, MassiveFunkyBassProject)
Beat Theatre (Powell River, producer extraordinaire)
Wax Organix (Neferiu records, Live production set)

DJ MikeyMike:

https://www.facebook.com/funkybreakz
https://soundcloud.com/funkybreakz
https://www.facebook.com/funkybreakz
https://soundcloud.com/funkybreakz

Bass-heavy thrills, rolling breakbeats with just a dash of hip hop from the golden era, sneaky melodic soulful hooks to move you back and forth into the next dimension of funky. Lots of clipped n cut up funk guitars and drum breaks. I love bringing the funky, nu funk, ghetto funk, nu soul, nu jazz, bootlegging and mashing up the old with the new, underpinned by floor-friendly bouncing, mid tempo sounds with the wobble to move your booty. I enjoy the soulful approach to the dance floor ( we need lots of hugs out there people!) but always love to bring it hard and dirty and go underground when the time is right and we’re all in the pocket- ya dig? Its about the jaw-dropping tunes that aim more at the floor than the head, with a passion for a plethora of musical tastes-not one to stay in too long to and keep ya groovin. This is mikeymike and you are my funky bunch!

BEAT THEATRE (Powell River):

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beat-Theatre https://soundcloud.com/kileius

A flavourful variety of bass has become Beat Theatre’s niche. Playing and producing music that utilizes frequencies ranging from rich transparent bass to funky boomin’ wind instruments truely expresses his creativeness. He plays many styles including Nu-Funk, Hip-Hop, Glitch, Minimal Dubstep, and Liquid Drum & Bass. When he plays his energy is always high, infatuate and bound to make you move your feet.

Beat Theatre always has a love for the arts. He started playing guitar at the age of 15 (2005) and since then has expanded his taste for music. At 18 he began exploring into the electronic scene of music and kept catching himself moving to intricate rhythms and basslines. Inspired, he bought his first midi-controller and instantly found enjoyment in mixing. Soon after, he found the feel of Vinyl to be his home. He has played many local shows and events on the West Coast of Canada, and has opened up for Dub FX, and DJ Shiftee.

Having been producing music for over 2 years now, Beat Theatre knows one thing: Patience is his key to success. Many weeks, days and hours of work in the studio just further excites his mind for more inspiration and new ideas.

Always welcoming fellow artist’s critique is Beat Theatre (Kile Ius) from Powell River, British Columbia. He is always on the rise, and his peak is no where in sight. Always promising to bear a variety of genres and a big smile to keep your body moving.

WAX ORGANIX:

http://www.facebook.com/waxorganix
http://www.soundcloud.com/waxorganix
http://www.neferiu.com/wax-organix

Deft and dangerous music from a sunny island; it’s that blend of fun, synth grime and funk that makes Wax Organix the perfect sauce for your speakers.

The sound cannot be categorized. Don’t try and fit this into one genre.

The songs are performed as a ‘Live PA’ set using a drum synthesizer, a sampler/sequencer, and an analog synthesizer. No laptops required! The live songs are completely open to improvisation. Arrangements can differ greatly from show to show. “It’s a way to keep things interesting for both myself and the audience”, says Wax. “When thinking of what I really wanted to do live, I knew that I didn’t want to use a computer at all, and I didn’t want to go up there and just press play on a device. This way of performing keeps things more interactive with the audience, as well as I feel that there is a true ‘performance factor’ there that is slowly leaving a lot of live electronic music. It makes for something to watch as well as dance to.”

In April 2013 Wax Organix released the E.P. Beastie Organix: the Beastie Boys Remix project to much acclaim. Which had over 5000 downloads worldwide within the first month of release.

The debut Wax Organix release (Blackened White) combines twisted samples and beat constructions via an MPC 2500 with a heap-a-records while laying down analog synth, digital synth, and electric bass lines alongside—matching deep hiphop grooves with a ripe garden of genre-rich sound sources. It’s a record with its head in the history of hiphop and a heart that beats with tomorrow’s bpm’s—a trend that Wax Organix will continue to lead.

To date both albums combined total over 11,000 downloads worldwide.

Contorting the violin into new traditions, violinist/composer Jaron Freeman-Fox dances down the fine line between the beautiful and the ridiculous, while redefining what the violin can do. Having produced or played on over 40 albums (Jayme Stone, Autorickshaw, Josh Van Tassel) and toured the world many times over as a solo artist, frontman or collaborator with bands such as Delhi 2 Dublin, The David Woodhead Confabulation and Ben Caplan, Freeman-Fox fuses his roots of Celtic and bluegrass fiddling with his study of Indian classical music and jazz, while playing the 5-string violins of his late mentor; fiddle pioneer Oliver Schroer.

Now, after 3 years of touring, writing, recording and spelunking with his fieryband Jaron Freeman-Fox & The Opposite of Everything, Jaron unveils his band’s new self-titled album in March 2013, fully demonstrating the breadth, depth, and general lunacy of this ensemble’s creativity.

Folks may be intrigued by the fact that JFF has performed for 100,000 people and the young royal couple on Parlimant hill, or that the Canadian Embassy was kind enough (or foolish enough) to send him off to collaborate with a troupe of nomadic Rajasthani gypsies at the Delhi International Arts Festival, or that his debut album “Manic Almanac : Slow Möbius” won an Independent Music Award, or that he’s performed with Delhi2Dublin, Tanya Tagaq, and James Kudelka. Jaron however, is most proud of the fact that he’s broken three different fiddles on stage and zero bones, had his violin stolen by monkeys in Bali and got it back without contracting rabies, and has the honour of featuring his absolute favourite musicians in the world, in his band The Opposite of Everything.
