Radio Malaspina is a hub of activity, attracting a diverse cross-section of students and community members who are passionate about independent media. Our volunteers include doctors, musicians, activists, scientists, journalists, politicians, retirees, and individuals from all walks of life. They will have the opportunity to network with and learn from these community members. This Work-Op position will require students to develop their inter-personal and communication skills.
Radio Malaspina is a not-for-profit society that cultivates an atmosphere of volunteerism and accessibility. Work-Op students will gain experience in an organization run by these values. Student will also have the opportunity to learn some of the business of running a not-for-profit society.
Work-Op students at Radio Malaspina will gain lots of hands-on experience in audio media production, including both live broadcasts and pre-produced audio. They will be required to produce high quality work, and meet deadlines. They will collaborate with other staff members and volunteers on a variety of projects. In addition to the invaluable experience, audio projects produced by the student can be added to their portfolio.
Radio Malaspina is searching for a dynamic student who is committed to independent/alternative media. Tasks include:
-using audio recording equipment to conduct interviews in the field or in the studio
-using digital editing software to create an engaging audio product
-uploading/archiving audio podcasts
-managing/organizing CHLY audio folders on server
-reports to Program Manager
-a good understanding of computers
-good people skills
-although the skills can be taught, experience in audio editing would be an asset
-although not required, a notebook computer would be an asset.
