Board of Directors

Katie Gilray

My name is Katie Gilray, and I am a second year Global Studies student minoring in English at Vancouver Island University. I started hanging around CHLY last year when I recently moved to the island from Ontario and was ataken back by their welcoming and down-to-earth atmosphere. It was such a breath of fresh air to see a local station that discussed real global and community based issues without sugar coating them. CHLY’s beliefs in low advertising and good music made me fall head over heels in love, which is why I decided to become a board member. As a board member I would like to re- build an authentic and positive relationship with the university, as well as involving more students with CHLY by providing a satellite station on VIU’s campus. I think CHLY is a fundamental part of Nanamio and I would love to bring my involvements with local non-profit organizations into CHLY to cause awareness of some of the growing concerns happening here on the island. “Bad news comes, don’t you worry even when it lands. Good news will work it’s way to all them plans.”

Raymond Geisler

Raymond Geisler is an American born Canadian. He is Russian, German and Polish, in order of blood. He has been a programmer/volunteer at CHLY for almost 5 years, and has been on the Board of Directors at the Radio Malaspina Society since the 2010 AGM.  Raymond is the host/producer of the “Unbought and Unbossed” radio show heard each Wednesday evening between 8-10PM. His show is unique because it lives outside the accepted political speech suggested by our corporate and governmental news sources (facism). It is also the longest running 9/11 Truth radio show on the Canadian air waves. Sadly, Raymond is still paying large monthly student load payments, but he has many ideas on the status quo mentality of the Canadian university experience. His goal is to keep indy media alive and well in Canada for as long as possible. He also his offers love and respect, Uncle Raymond

Lloyd MacIlquham – Minister of Internal Affairs

Lloyd is a lawyer both in British Columbia and Ontario and was called to the bar in 1989. He received his Doctor degree in Law (J.D.) from the University of Toronto (UofT) where he also received his M.Sc. (Mathematics) and his B.Sc. (Math. & Phys.). In his graduating year at UofT (undergraduate) he was awarded the Lieutenant_Governor’s Silver Medal for the second highest marks overall at Victoria University (part of UofT). Lloyd is married with two young children and has chosen Nanaimo to raise his family because of the clean environment, beautiful landscape and warm hospitality this region has to offer.

Lloyd has been broadcasting live video over the Web since his Chinese New Years event on 17 Feb.’07. More recently he broadcast video of Blues Plate Special live from CHLY for around 6 months. He and his wife Swan have just started their show on CHLY called: “Sino Naimo News,” on Sundays at 6:00pm.

Lloyd has been practicing in the area of Canadian Immigration law for over 20 years, handling all types of cases and with clients from all over the world. He also practices in the area of Real Estate and Criminal law as well. Over the years Lloyd has been very active in the community including sitting on the boards of a number of community organizations. He has also been personally involved in research and development for a number of computer companies, as well as designing his own Website, where he has been able to combine his math & science background with his legal skills.

Alison Roberts

Alison grew up on a 100 acre horse farm in a town of 400 in south western Ontario. The experience instilled in her a love of animals, nature and adventure.  She was fortunate to have parents whose response to any, well… most of her ideas was, Go for it! So she did. She shocked her friends and family by moving to Toronto where she lived for several years. She went to grad school, volunteered in Kenya, drove across the country with her Dad and has since lived in Langley, East Van, Comox and now Nanaimo. More recent adventures include climbing Mt. H’Kusam in Sayward, writing a book and organizing a northern BC book tour in a van that runs on recycled vegetable oil.  A member of Radio Malaspina Society for over 7 years, her motivation for being involved with CHLY is totally selfish: support independent media or turn into a zombie. She chooses to support CHLY and maintain her sanity.
